Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Seeking qualified candidates to be part of a pool for future opportunities.
To provide instructional assistance to both non-native and native students in the Writing, Reading, Speech Assistance area of the College of DuPage and serve as a trainer and consultant to other academic assistants. Academic Assistant II will offer presentations in classrooms or online.
Provide writing, reading, public speaking and conversation assistance to students in all academic disciplines taught at the College of DuPage.

Consult and serve as a resource to other academic assistants and peer coaches.
Conduct and/or create workshops on various writing, reading and speech topics for non-native speakers to be presented in classrooms or through webinars.
Assist supervisor with program and training. Develop and compile resource materials.
Facilitate conversation circles for non-native students.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching or providing academic assistance. Experience presenting in groups. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a proficiency in spoken English.

PREFERRED:
EDUCATION: Master's degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics or an ESL endorsement.

Working Conditions:

  • Four (4) to twenty (20) hours per week during academic terms only (approximately 40 weeks per year). Some evening or weekend hours may be required. Some hours may be in off-campus locations.
  • This position is subject to a background check and education verification at the expense of the College.


  • Pay Grade:
    CAT3 $25.27
