About the Job

The Department of Theatre at the University of Minnesota Duluth invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Theatre beginning Fall Semester 2024. This position is a 100% appointment over the 9-month academic year. Responsibilities include teaching acting, directing and other courses in our BFA and BA programs; providing mentorship and guidance to theatre students; supporting our active production season by directing one production a year as part of our mainstage season; and providing departmental service and other requisite duties of a tenure-track position. The teaching of acting at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels is fundamental to this position. A secondary goal of this position is to help expand the current Directing curriculum. The strongest applicants will have additional area(s) of expertise, and the department welcomes the opportunity to expand and/or re-envision curriculum based on applicant's specific strengths.

Duties will also include service to the department and university, curriculum development, student advising and mentorship, recruitment, and participation at production and faculty meetings. As a tenure-track position, faculty members are expected to maintain their professional development, which can be achieved by creative activity both inside and/outside the university, research and publication, and active involvement in professional organizations related to the faculty member's discipline(s).

The Department of Theatre is actively working to create a culture of inclusion that promotes diversity, equity, and accessibility through curricula, policies and practices. The ideal candidate will support our mission through demonstrated evidence of their commitment to these principles in their research, teaching, mentoring and/or creative work. Applications from historically underrepresented populations in academia are encouraged
