Applicants are invited to apply for full-time Research Professional 4 positions in the laboratory of Michael Lipscomb for highly motivated candidates interested in basic and translational studies in immunology. For more information, please visit .

The Lipscomb laboratory focuses on delineating the immunomodulatory mechanisms that govern antigen presenting myeloid cell functions and the development of innovative immunotherapies to combat intracellular pathogens and alleviate autoimmune and immunodeficiency disorders. Studies use knockout/in transgenic mouse models for in vivo and ex vivo analyses of immune and metabolic cellular functioning under both steady state and inflammatory/disease settings.

Position Summary
Contribute to NIH-funded and pilot research programs exploring the underlying molecular and cellular basis of immune and metabolic functioning in health and disease. Support and facilitate the efforts of team members.

Primary responsibilities:

Research and Data Analysis (85%):
* Independently create and plan experiments based on knowledge of the field, gained by researching relevant literature and working with other researchers in a collaborative fashion.
* Conduct investigations and performing in vivo and ex vivo immune-based studies/experimentations using mice model systems under guidance and direction of principal investigator.
* Execute experiments using methods created according to previously published methods or novel methods developed as needed to generate data sets.
* Analyze data collected from experiments. Synthesize data in an easily readable format and prepare graphs, charts, tables and reports of data.
* Write routine summary reports on results of work and confer with supervisors on interpretation of results and avenues of investigation.

General laboratory management duties (15%):
* Perform routine genotyping for maintenance and management of animal colonies.
* Assist in managing daily laboratory operations (ordering supplies, receiving, inventory management).
* Mentor, train and supervise undergraduate students and junior assistants.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:
* M.S. in biomedical-related field(s) and 2 years of related experience in immunology studies or BS/BA and 4 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with mouse handling
* Knowledge of principles, concepts, practices and methods in biomedical research to solve relatively complex research-related problems and work assignments
* Experience working with antigen presenting myeloid cells and/or T cells in vivo or ex vivo
* Experience working with infectious disease models (i.e. viral/bacterial pathogen challenges in vivo) and/or use of autoimmune models
* Experience in small animal handling, survival surgeries, blood withdrawal and subq/i.v. injections
* Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
