Description

Functions in a senior technical specialist/supervisory capacity. Well experienced in engineering design typically in a specific discipline as well as other disciplines associated with a project. Supervises an assigned staff of engineering technicians and support personnel by coordinating, and overseeing design activities.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews project standard requirements and accurately determines the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
  • Promotes quality within team. Reviews design inputs in order to ensure consistency. Ensures deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards in force for the project. Contributes to the continuous improvement of guides and standards.
  • Applies basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Applies judgment and makes decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation. Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise. Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records. May review the deliverables of others. May monitor production to assure consistency, budget and schedule of the deliverables.
  • Communicates directly within team and other disciplines to identify and coordinate details of work for assigned tasks, or at project level for smaller-sized projects.
  • Communicates client interests and drivers to project team and develops approaches to meet these interests and drivers throughout the work on less complex projects.
  • May lead in the development and communication of appropriate design standards. Identify technical training and development needs for personnel they supervise and participate in training efforts. Assigned special assignments depending on technical expertise. Assignments may involve solving a particular design problem or participating in a design team focused on completing an assigned project task. Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.
  • Performs people-related activities including PMIs, annual performance management process, career planning, learning and development, recognition, and Performance Improvement Plans. Supervises engineering technicians, including mentoring, instructing, delegation of work and providing feedback.
  • Monitors staffing and available skill sets for project(s).

Experience

Typically a minimum of 15 years related work experience.

Qualifications

Education
Associates of Drafting & Design (preferred)
Technical/other training of Equivalent Experience (preferred)
