Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will be part of an innovative geotechnical engineering team of more than 70 geotechnical engineers and field geologists. This person will assist with the execution and management of geotechnical engineering projects related to mining.This position is open for a hybrid work arrangement. This position requires periodic, out-of-town assignments
Key responsibilities may include:
Managing mining geotechnical projects from various stages of prefeasibility through design or plan execution as well as operational geotechnical support
Mining geotechnical projects can include surface open pits, underground mines, and support facilities such as waste rock dumps, heap leach pads, and tails impoundments.
Maintaining and developing client relationships
Providing support through training/mentorship for other geotechnical engineers
Preparing proposals and cost estimates for geotechnical investigations
Coordinating field and laboratory testing
Interpreting and analyzing geotechnical data to establish engineering properties of materials and foundation recommendations
Understanding of geotechnical deformation monitoring systems, implementation of monitoring and ground control plans for mine operations, and trigger action response plans.
Completing geotechnical engineering analyses including rock and soil slope stability analysis, structural or kinematic stability, seepage, bearing capacity, and settlement
Preparing technical memorandums and reports
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in geological engineering or civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis or related
10 years of related work experience
Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain within one year
Strong geotechnical analysis and design skills
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
Proven project management experience
Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Acceptable driving record
Legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in geological engineering or geotechnical engineering or related
15 years of relevant work experience
Experience working at a mine operation(s)
Experience working in consulting engineering
Strong relationships with clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service
NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and must be able to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Position will occasionally require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given fieldwork assignments. Applicants will be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of clients.
