About the Job

Primary work will be to optimize hydrogel formulation and hydrogel geometry toward building a prototype of a medical device. The successful candidate will be expected to:
Perform structured research assigned by the project's Primary Investigator (PI). (75%)

  • Prepare hydrogels with different formulations and characterize hydrogel properties (including swelling ratio, swelling kinetics, and stiffness) to find the optimal hydrogel formulation for the device.
  • Prepare hydrogels with various geometries to find the optimal hydrogel geometry for the device
  • Assemble the device and test its performance in a 3D-printed organ model.
  • Keep detailed records of all experiments, procedures, and data.

Analyze, plot, and present data to the PI (5%)
Conduct background literature research on relevant topics including current methods and reagents. (5%)
Collaborate on reports, conference papers and journal articles (5%)
Help monitor and train undergraduate student workers working on the same Project (5%)
Participate in lab up-keep, lab safety, and resource management (5%)

Qualifications

Required: B.S. in biomedical engineering, chemistry, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field -- or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is an academic unit of the College of Science and Engineering that administers biomedical engineering degree programs at all levels (, , and ).
