Hennepin Healthcare is currently seeking Pharmacy Techs to join our busy Pharmacy Departments.

Opportunities will include a variety of schedules and shifts including, part-time and full time positions with benefits for primarily day/evening rotating shifts, rotating weekend and holidays. Some openings have bilingual requirements.

This posting is a talent pipeline requisition to field interested applicants for consideration for any approved openings in the departments.

A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates (contract/temporary workers and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). One year (or other timeframe) work commitment required.

SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answers phones for the pharmacy department and directs calls to appropriate personnel
  • Maintains knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy and other related policies
  • Prepackages, prepares, labels and hands out prescriptions after they are checked by a registered pharmacist
  • Maintains cash registers, credit card machines and reporting for cash transactions
  • Prepares daily deposits for the cashier's office
  • Bills and credits patient medications
  • Stocks inventory in Pharmacy
  • Routinely checks and removes outdated and expired medications
  • Delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas and picks up new orders as scheduled
  • Files prescriptions and reports
  • Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion
  • Enters outpatient prescriptions
  • Obtains and records patient drug histories
  • Triages orders, determines priorities, processes orders and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate
  • Performs various calculations to determine the correct dose using weight
  • Identifies the appropriate product to process based on the prescription order
  • Triages insurance rejections and initiates prior authorization claims as needed
  • Uses appropriate pharmaceutical-medical terms, abbreviations and symbols
  • Maintains a working knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs
  • Compounding medications as per Minnesota Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations
  • Responsible for safe and careful handling of chemotherapeutic medications
  • Assist with other duties as assigned but only after appropriate training

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or a 240 hour employer based Technician training Program or 1,000 hours of Pharmacy experience
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with MN State Board
  • PTCB or ExPhT certification within 1 year of date of hire, paid for by employee
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems
  • Insurance and Billing Experience

  • Ability to learn and apply pharmacy procedures and interpret prescriptions
  • Ability to apply basic math skills
  • Some skill in record keeping
  • Ability to use computer effectively
