Summary of Position:
A position is immediately available in the lab of Kyle Costa (costalab.umn.edu) in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology for a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to study syntrophic interactions between methanogenic archaea and bacterial partners. This work will leverage techniques in molecular biology to understand how consortia of organisms work together to generate methane gas. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, or a related field, a strong publication record, and experience in any of the following areas: anaerobic microbiology, microbial genetics, or microbial metabolism and physiology.

The position is for one year, and renewable annually depending on funding and performance. Start date is flexible. Applicants should include a cover letter explaining their interest in the position, a CV, and contact information for three references.

Essential and Other Functions:
75% Research
The postdoctoral scholar will design and carryout experiments to understand the physiology of methanogenic archaea.

15% Publication and presentation of data
The postdoctoral scholar is expected to communicate their research findings through publication in peer-reviewed research journals and presentation at local and national meetings.

10% Training and mentoring of students
The postdoc will work with undergraduate and graduate students in the lab and is expected to foster the development of junior lab members.

Essential Qualifications All applicants must have a PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in microbial genetics, biochemistry, anaerobic microbiology, and/or microbial physiology is desired.
