Overview
The Principal Development Engineer position is an exciting opportunity within our TA Instruments ElectroForce R&D organization to create next generation, connected, mechanical test intruments for our materials division.

This position requires strong experience in product design, DOE & RCA skills, data analysis and project management, and responsibility to share knowledge as a mentor to junior engineers. As a Principal Development Engineer, you will be a key contributor to Marketing, Project Management, and Manufacturing groups as novel products progress through our phase gate development process to commercialization.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow both professionally and to work collaboratively with project team members from research groups, manufacturing, materials science and marketing to enhance TA Instruments' position in a highly dynamic market.
Typical tasks of the position include, but are not limited to

We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Controls Engineer for the ElectroForce Systems Group in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

 

Required Technical skills:

• Linear systems and adaptive control development experience

• Model-based design and code generation using MATLAB (StateFlow, Simulink RealTime)
• C or C++ coding skills

• Familiarity with Visual Studio

• CAD/PLM system experience, preferably Solidworks, Altium, and PDM

• Has been involved with prototype generation
• Excellent organization and communication skills
• Willingness to work on fast paced, challenging engineering projects

• Familiarity with real time operating systems

 

Desired Skills:
• Understanding of signal processing and electrical measurements
• Experience establishing requirements
• Highly independent

The successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience that would include the following

Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred

Experience:

  • 12-15 years of experience in products design and development.
  • Experience in the design, development and transfer of new products into a manufacturing environment

Skills:

  • Desire and demonstrated ability to successfully lead complex projects
  • Desire and demonstrated mentoring skills with junior engineers/coop students
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering, Design Thinking Concepts
  • Proven track record of problem solving and learning agility
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and organize work load and multiple projects to achieve desired goals
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Design of integrated components consisting of mechanical design in combination with any of the following: electronics, software, communication, electrical, RFID, sensors, system recognition capabilities (preferred).
