Job Description

Spire is seeking a Gas Worker to work in the Kansas City, MO operation. This position will be responsible for assisting in the repair, installation and maintenance of natural gas underground piping.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient, courteous service to both internal and external customers.
  • Functions as part of a crew in the Construction and Maintenance Department and works indecently in the Installation and Service department.
  • Receives and completed service orders by computer.
  • Demonstrates the capability of functioning as a member of this team executing his/her part of all phases of the work program.
  • Performs general laboring duties in the Construction department and Installation and Service department which consist of breaking pavement, excavating, backfilling, compacting, pipe fitting, installing construction and maintenance materials, operating all air and hydraulic tools, installing meters and fittings, turning gas on and off, and removing and changing all sizes of diaphragm meters.
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent

Required knowledge, skill and abilities:

  • Must obtain Class E Chauffer license before completion of probation
  • Ability to obtain certification under the Operator’s Qualification Requirements.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact appropriately with others.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense, collect data and conduct analysis as required to solve certain problems.
  • Ability to provide daily direct service to external customers.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of all fittings used in the Construction and Maintenance department and Installation and Service dept.
  • Ability to use pipefitting hand tools.
  • Ability to work hours and days, including overtime, weekends and holidays as necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and with such frequency as necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
  • Ability to perform duties onsite, except those duties which are customarily or by their nature performed off site.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail.

Physical demands, work environment and work schedule:

  • Regularly performs work inside customer’s homes and businesses and on customer’s property.
  • Regularly performs work on customer’s property, periodically performs work inside customer’s homes and businesses.
