The Position

The primary role will be to partner with the Executive Assurance (EA) division by working closely with the underwriters and their leadership team. Daily projects include pricing and assessing new business opportunities as well as a variety of interesting adhoc projects. Core to the role is working with the business on profitability studies, benchmark pricing, automating existing processes, developing new insights to monitor the business and work closely with the business on strategies. A yearly business review where you will be highly engaged for your analysis and inputs. This position will also directly manage an employee.

The EA department manages the financial lines risks that Arch writes. This includes lines such as Directors and Officers, Employment Practice Liability, Private Equity, Transactional Risk, and many others. This business is written primarily in house and through minimal MGUs and Programs. To manage these units, Actuarial completes monthly price monitors, yearly profitability studies, quarterly benchmarking, as well as a variety of different diagnostic measures. Arch is continually looking to expand in areas that we believe could be profitable and beneficial for diversification.

Job Responsibilities
    Lead the profitability studies and discuss business strategy
  • Manage special projects from senior management
  • Be actively involved and improve on monthly/quarterly reporting
  • Build/Update/Monitor diagnostic tools
  • Assess and onboard new business opportunities for Executive Assurance
  • Manage and mentor an employee
Required Skills/Experience

Level and role are flexible for a talented candidate with long-term fit and potential. Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • P&C actuarial qualifications: ACAS or close to ACAS; expect 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Leadership: Strength and experience as a teacher, manager, peer, leader and contributor to a positive culture
  • Experience: knowledge due diligence on new business opportunities
  • Efficiency: productivity and organizational skills
  • Analytical and quantitative skills: theoretical foundation, work quality, productivity, creativity, ingenuity
  • Professionalism including oral and written communication skills including presentations and marketing
  • Software skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint expected; basic knowledge of R and SQL needed, additional database and programming skills are a plus
