Skating School Coordinator

Part-Time, 20 Hours Per Week (Year-Round)
Pay: $24.315 - $30.801 per hour, DOQ


 
The City of Eagan is hiring a Skating School Coordinator!
This position is responsible for coordinating and supervising a variety of skating programs including Ice Skating Institute (ISI) Learn to Skate School, synchronized and team compulsory groups, and the annual ice show.
 
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
  • Recruits, recommends for hire, trains, schedules, evaluates, and supervises skate school and specialized instructors
  • Develops, coordinates, implements, and supervises a variety of programs including the annual ice show. This includes but is not limited to registration, preparing program test materials, publicity, music, casting, choreography, costumes, props, scheduling of staff, volunteers and rehearsals, photography, security and tracking revenue and expenditures associated with programs
  • Reviews, prepares or revises skate school curriculum as necessary, structures classes for systematic progression and development of skating skills, and makes recommendations to the Arena and Aquatics Manager when appropriate
  • Organizes and runs ISI freestyle test sessions, oversees synchronized skating teams and team compulsory groups, and serves as a team liaison for all ISI competitions
  • Teaches skating lessons in the absence of instructors or to enhance program opportunities and training
  • Works with Parks and Recreation staff for class registrations, name tag labels, and clerical requests
  • Prepares and recommends program budget for inclusion in Civic Arena operating budget
  • Assists with preparation and recommends program budget for inclusion in Civic Arena operation budget
  • Provides consistent, high quality customer service to participants and responds to participant and parent feedback and concerns in a timely fashion
  • Works as a team with Arena and Aquatics Manager, Facility Operations Coordinator, Maintenance Coordinator, and seasonal staff to ensure coordination of programs and facilities
  • Ensures the safety, quality, and consistency of the programs and instruction
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three (3) years of experience in various teaching methodologies for ice skating including, but not limited to:
    • Ice Skating Institute (ISI)
    • US Figure Skating (USFS)
    • Other skating programs (i.e.USA Hockey)
  • One (1) year of experience in direct contact customer service environment
  • One (1) year of of experience with computers and Microsoft Office products
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience
  • One (1) year of experience in the production of ice shows
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ISI professional membership
  • Previous experience as a skate school coordinator or director
  • More than 1 year of supervisory experience
  • More than 3 years experience teaching figure skating
  • Previous experience managing revenues and expenditures for programs
  • Previous experience in a municipal setting managing or teaching skating programs
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ice arena environment; working closely with others; frequent interruptions
  • Temperature ranges from 40o F to 90o F depending upon when there is ice or dry floor in the building
  • Examples of the work schedule include, but are not limited to: day time, evening and weekend hours
  • 50% in an office environment with direct public contact
  • 50% on-ice with students, instructors, or the public
