Water Resources Intern Seasonal, May 21-August 31, 2018 Full-Time Pay: $13.81-$16.83/Hour, DOQ
The City of Eagan is hiring a Water Resources Intern!
This position will provide outdoor labor to regular management activities, special projects, and assist with various indoor tasks to support the implementation of the City’s Water Quality and Wetland Management Plan, as well as the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program.
In this position you will:
Provide support to any or all of the following:
Physical and chemical monitoring of lakes and stormwater runoff
Compilation and entry of data into computer formats, including basic GIS
Application of alum and herbicides
Maintenance of native plant restoration projects
Public education and involvement activities
Safely operate any or all of the following:
Various monitoring, sampling, and field equipment
Small boats, canoe, and outboard motors
4-wheel drive light utility truck
Personal computer and peripheral equipment
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
Valid Driver’s License
Current enrollment in a college program with emphasis on/related to water resources, natural resources, and/or environmental sciences
2 years of post-secondary education or experience with or coursework in biology, chemistry, geography, or related natural sciences field
Ability to work as a team and to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
Ability to think analytically and independently, as well as make appropriate judgements
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
Willingness to work in a variety of weather conditions, with or without supervision
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position under the working conditions described
Desired Qualifications:
Previous training or experience in water resources sciences or management
Previous training or experience in data collection and management
Current Junior or Senior at a college or university
Working Conditions, Physical Demands, and Hours or Work:
Full-time, seasonal, 40 hours per week
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional hours before/after normal working hours and occasional weekends
75% field work, 25% office
May require working outdoors in all weather conditions
Conditions may include uneven, rough terrains in wildlife and wetland habitats as well as construction sites
Must have the ability to lift, turn, move, carry, place, and retrieve documents, tools, or objects weighing up to 70 pounds from all levels of a 7-foot high car top, storage shelf. or file cabinet
