Position Summary: The Crew Chief is responsible for coordinating the activities of a survey crew. This individual gathers the required field survey data for use in survey projects as well as design surveys in conjunction with engineering projects. This is a high production-orientated position. Essential Functions and Duties:
Responsible for interpreting and reviewing engineering plans while completing construction staking activities and working closely with Project Engineers
Responsible for understanding, operating, adjusting and maintaining field survey equipment as well as the review, quality control and presentation of field survey data such as data files, field notes and site photos
Works with Project Manager to understand project scope, budgets and schedules. Works diligently to complete work within scope, within budget and on schedule.
Communicates and coordinates project work with all project team members – including other departments
Reports concerns and/or questions to Project Manager regarding site conditions, project scope or other intangible items.
Provides a safe working environment for crew members and the public; responsible for decisions related to on the job safety for all crew members. Responsible for the use of safety equipment by crew members at all appropriate times.
Light to moderate computer usage to upload and download data files and to send and receive email.
Ability to use Trimble Robotic Total Station, Trimble GPS equipment and Trimble data collectors.
Position Requirements:
3 years of experience working as a Crew Chief or 1 year as a Crew Chief and AAS degree
Meeting deadlines and staying within project budgets
Valid driver’s license is required
Physical Demands - This position requires frequent and heavy lifting of field gear (60+ lbs.) and the ability to carry gear to and from the work site. Work may be performed on unstable terrain. Additional physical demands include but are not limited to driving, walking, standing, crouching, kneeling , climbing, reaching, repetitive motion and lifting. Employees generally work alone or may have junior-level crew members to assist, depending on the project.
