Position Overview
Each summer, TRIO UB provides holistic academic and college readiness services to students via five weeks of academic classes, three weeks of residential living experience at the University of Minnesota, cultural capital building and leadership development activities, local/regional college campus visits/exposure, as well as a six-week Bridge program for graduated seniors.
The Lead Residential Youth Counselor (Lead RYC) will live in the residence halls with the Residential Coordinator and TRIO Upward Bound students for five weeks. When on duty, they will assist the Residential Coordinator in the development, implementation, and supervision of residential activities. The goal of the TRIO Upward Bound residential program is to help students become acclimated to living in a college campus environment, build the necessary skills to enhance self-sufficiency, and build cultural capital. Job Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead fellow Residential Youth Counselors
- Assist Residential Coordinator is Bridge activities and planning
- Coordinate, implement, and chaperone evening activities for student participants
- Mediate conflicts
- Build relationships with students to positively advise and mentor them
- Monitor, track and evaluate student performance, attendance, and behavior and provide essential intervention when necessary
- Work as a team leader to create a holistic residential experience
- Enforce curfew, dress code, and other vital TRIO Upward Bound and University of Minnesota Conduct Code and Residential policies
- Ensure compliance with MDE Summer Food Service Program
- Help lead and engage in staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Applicants should note this is a 6-week summer camp, with training for the first week and then living with students for five weeks. Room and board is included in addition to pay for six weeks. This summer, the residential program will take place in a residential hall located on the East Bank Campus of the University of Minnesota.

Compensation is paid on a bi-weekly basis as scheduled:
- Training week: 40 hours for 1 week at $21.00 per hour.
- Residential Weeks: 40 hours per week at $21.00 per hour
- Additional Salary Perks:
- Free single room and three daily meals in University residence hall, Monday to Friday for five weeks.
- Free entrance fees for all evening activities.
