Hours of Operation: Typical hours of operation for Occupational Health is 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday (Work eight hours per day with a one-hour lunch break)

Core Duties:

  • Provides occupational health (OH) services to military and civilian employees exposed to a variety of chemical, physical and biological hazards to include the care and treatment of illness, injury and programs of health examination, screening, counseling and education.
  • Prepares employees for and conducts occupational health screenings in the OH Clinic and at the worksite. Tests provided include audiograms utilizing the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Hearing Conservation (DOEHRS-HC) microprocessor audiometer; vision screening utilizing the Titmus vision screener; blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations.
  • Perform occupational health testing such as audiograms, vision and spirometry testing.
  • Participates in pre-visit planning for scheduled employees and document information/employee care on the employee's occupational health record and/or electronic health record.
  • Screens employee medical and immunization records during In-processing and Out-processing ensuring they are current with requirements for specific immunizations or enrolled in the Medical Surveillance Program. Through screening process, determines if employee needs referral to the OHN or physician for further testing or evaluation.

Experience:

  • Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Degree: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Using an Electronic Health Record to check-in patients; 2) Collecting and recording patient vital signs; and 3) performing non-professional direct patient care in a hospital or health clinic setting.

OR

  • Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Nursing.
  • Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Utilize medical databases to document employee objective findings (e.g. temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, assessment, height, weight, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and experience using windows-based database programs. Manages word processing in the form of preparation of written reports, administrative forms, memoranda and other correspondence. A qualified typist is not required.
  • Knowledge of and experience using medical terminology, sufficient to understand employee's medical and occupational histories for the purpose of determining the need for medical surveillance laboratory tests and further evaluation by the OHN.
  • Knowledge and skill to interview employees in a professional manner and seek out information relating to the employee's health and related issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for greeting clients and interfacing with personnel in other organizations to include Outlying Clinic OH Representatives and accessing data to and from for monthly reporting to the OHN.
