A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PORTFOLIO MANAGER
The primary function of this role is to manage existing client relationships, overseeing portfolio management and all other aspects of client services. Additionally, the position will have assigned investment management/research responsibilities for the firm's approved list of equity managers.
- Portfolio Management: Position is responsible for all aspects of account management for agency, personal trusts, foundation, endowment, and other investment advisory relationships by adhering to established investment objectives and policies.
- Communication: Position will provide proactive, effective and timely client communication through written and verbal, including in person account review meetings. Candidate will have sound knowledge of economic and market environment and convey how such conditions affect portfolio performance.
- Investment Strategy Responsibilities: Position will lead the development of new and ongoing investment strategies for the equity component of clients' model portfolios across the entire firm. Lead in searching for, selecting and monitoring firm approved equity managers. Report and present findings at the Investment Committee Meeting and to the Board as requested. Candidate will also perform macro analysis in order to provide portfolio positioning recommendations and tactical asset allocation ideas within equities.
- Business Development: This position will at times represent the investment division in new business opportunities by working with business development staff and relationship managers to develop proposals and participate in presentations with prospects.
Qualification & Skill Requirements
- 5-10 years of industry experience
- Bachelor's degree, preferably with a major in finance, accounting, or economics
- CFA and/or MBA preferred or enrollment in CFA program. Equivalent credentials will be considered.
- Track record in advising and managing multi asset class portfolios for clients within agreed parameters, restrictions and regulatory frameworks.
- Effective communicator with highly developed presentation and facilitation skills. Confidence in dealing with clients with diverse investment knowledge, needs and characteristics.
- Intellectual curiosity and a passion for equity research
- Experience working with investment and research personnel on manager due diligence, asset allocation strategy, markets, economics, and portfolio strategy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and financial tools such as Morningstar, etc
- Entrepreneurial spirit with drive and ambition, along with the ability to work in a small team environment
- Strong written and oral communication/presentation skills.
