Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for continuous improvement, developing and maintaining time standards, work instructions, production BOMs, troubleshooting equipment and product, and assembly line layouts. Contributes to a work environment which promotes safety, quality, and delivery. Reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor and works collaboratively with production planning, purchasing, assembly, and R&D groups.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for assembly, warehouse, and quality teams. Communicate with peers and management to ensure the appropriate team, tools and processes are in place to support the daily production plan.
  • Be highly visible to employees and create an environment that encourages employee participation and engagement and promotes performance and accountability.
  • Create and update process documentation. Make improvements to work instructions including integration with MES software (Visual Factory).
  • Scrutinize problems with employee involvement using root cause analysis tools on the production floor.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across the site.
  • Promote, prepare, and coordinate Kaizen activities in a variety of areas. Sustain results.
  • Interpret and implement engineering changes. Communicate changes to all affected groups and provide training on process updates as needed.
  • Dissect production report data and identify opportunities for improvement. Execute process changes that increase efficiency and reduce variation.
  • Participate in production capacity expansion projects, consulting on facility layout and process design. Assist with planning and execution of the project and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Execute the short and mid-term (1 to 3 year) operations strategy focused on creating stability and predictability in output as the basis for accelerated growth.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or a related engineering field is required
  • Basic comfort level to troubleshoot with hand tools, and ready to learn more
  • Experience implementing Lean principals
  • Excellent communication skills with front-line workers and with peers
  • Understand and interpret production performance (Safety, productivity, SPC, KPIs, etc.)
  • Bias for action, strong ability to inspire others and create positive energy, a change agent
  • Able to develop and maintain a respectful and safe work environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Assembly line layout and facility layout design. Understanding of efficient workflow.
  • Time studies, cycle time analysis, assembly line balancing and optimization.
  • Understanding of engineering change processes (ECR/ECO/ECN)
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and explain to non-technical personnel
  • Working knowledge of Lean concepts such as 5S, Kanban, and Value Stream Mapping
  • Skilled in error proofing / poke yoke methods.
  • Strong technical writing skills. Ability to write clear and consistent instructions.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, such as BAAN LN / SAP
  • Experience using MES software such as Visual Factory
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment such as cranes, torque tools, and fixtures.
  • Hands on troubleshooting skills for complex mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems
  • Conceptualize and direct construction of jigs / fixtures
  • Implementation of automation to the factory floor
  • Conceptualizing and implementing material handling solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work without constant supervision, manage multiple projects, and react to changing priorities
COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft SQL, with experience preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of simulation software preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, BAAN LN & SAP
