JOB SUMMARY

Manages and performs financial procedures and directs their implementation. Responsible for overall supervision of Accounting staff.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directly supervises and coordinates activities of employees in the accounting department, ensuring that standard accounting principles are followed in keeping the organizations financial records.
  • Performs and supervises monthly close processes and procedures, including general ledger entries.
  • Works with Finance Director and department directors to draw up grant contract and annual budgets.
  • Keeps abreast of changing regulations relevant to nonprofit accounting.
  • Coordinates the Annual CPA audit.
  • Assists Finance Director in required reporting, including annual cost report, UDS reporting, grant reporting, 990 and various IHS reports.
  • Confirms monthly and annual Accounting calendar is complete and up to date.
  • Performs and oversees preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations, assuring accuracy and following up as needed.
  • Assists Finance Director in preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for funding agencies and management.
  • Prepares reports for contracts assigned.
  • Work with program staff to ensure that grant budgets are on track for spending and support planning to ensure compliance with grant budget.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises and conducts performance appraisals.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise subordinates.
  • Reviews employee time-cards for accuracy and availability of leave.
  • Assists Finance Director in revising and maintaining written accounting procedures.
  • Oversees the preparation of vendor payables for computer generated payment.
  • Oversees that all equipment purchases receive proper documentation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration required. CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience of a finance office in healthcare or other related field required.
  • Experienced user of Accounting software required. (Sage MIP preferred)
  • Knowledge of FQHC payment provisions and managed care contracting preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple grant accounts; knowledge of federal grant requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of accepted accounting procedures and principles required.
  • Experience with budget preparation and financial management required.
  • Strong knowledge of federal tax laws and guidelines for nonprofit organizations.
  • Excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work with and communicate financial requirements across many skill levels and job descriptions.
  • Respect of American Indian culture.
