Job Description

MAJOR FUNCTION

Having a local responsibility and covering production sites within Americas region the Category Manager (CM) is involved with purchases and suppliers that have medium to high impact on the organization's products, processes and budget.

The CM manages a large supplier base and needs to forge very close relationships with strategic suppliers. The CM is in a close cooperation with R&D departments to secure successful implementation of new product developments at suppliers. Acts as 2nd level support and form an effective cooperation with Operational Purchasing in the factories.

The CM is also expected to support the Senior Category Manager in his/her various duties, including continuously identifying, scoping, planning and executing savings opportunities to optimize Total Value of Ownership (TVO) for Nilfisk. Manage category related tasks, including:

1. Category strategy implementation

2. Create and supervise his/her own cost saving or TVO projects within Americas region

3. Supplier performance and Supplier Relationship Management

4. Drive cross-functional Category Teams

5. Manage stakeholders including R&D, Quality, Production, Logistics and Product Management

6. Support NPD projects (cost, Time-to-Market etc.). Set direction for NPD projects (TechOps, R&D, other) to ensure suppliers are selected in accordance with agreed category strategies

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Continuously identify, scope, plan and execute savings opportunities to optimize Total Value of Ownership (TVO) for Nilfisk
  • Optimize TVO in own category, including to continuously manage a large supplier base, implement category strategies and set direction for + support Nilfisk Product Development (NPD) in terms of (cost, Time-to-Market, etc.). R&D is overall responsible for driving the NPD projects and the CM will ensure the right CM support in this process
  • Cover 2 production and 1 distribution sites in Americas region (BPK, QUE, UDC)
  • Video/phone meeting, present the monthly report category progress to the management
  • Forge very close relationships with strategic suppliers both in China, Europe and Americas. Hold 1-2 yearly business reviews/negotiations and ensure to include them in product development
  • Manage local contracts and frame agreements aligned with the category strategy
  • Ensure close cooperation with R&D and local technical department (in-going production) to secure successful implementation of new product developments at suppliers

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

University degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering and/or Economics / Business Administration. The candidate must be comfortable working with numbers and statistics (master level).

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 3-4 years of direct sourcing (Bill of Material = BOM) experience from a large, international, manufacturing company, preferably within electrical or similar technical category insight

KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

Solid understanding of project management "mechanics" (able to make own project plan, etc.), not a pre-requisite to be PM educated but an advantage.

English spoken and written at negotiation level.

Solid understanding of cross functional collaboration, communication and negotiation

COMPUTER SKILLS:

IT proficient, especially within MS Office (Excel, PPT)
