POSITION SUMMARY:

The Social Media Intern will learn about Academy-wide organic social posts, paid media, and metrics. This position will work with the Digital Content Strategy team by assisting with the monitoring, creation, and editing of digital content on AAN.com and BrainandLife.org.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Supports Social Media

* Learns to monitor 20+ social media channels

* Reviews and edits social media content for member- and patient-facing brands and learns how to identify and correct posts that don't adhere to social media best practices and how to maintain a consistent brand tone and voice on social media

* Demonstrates knowledge of writing for social media by creating content for Academy-branded social channels

* Learns to develop social media content for Brain & Life as it pertains to disorder awareness days and months and additional items as assigned

* Learn how to analyze social data and assist with researching paid media tactics, provide data-driven suggestions for consideration, and contribute to the build of paid campaigns

* Provides background and insight on emerging social media platforms to begin identifying how a brand approaches new channels

* Develop an understanding of post-campaign reporting and provide suggestions for extended offerings

* Assists with keeping social media channels secure

* Partners with design team to size images for social channel best practices

* Maintains social media documentation in SharePoint, the internal shared document drive


Supports Website Maintenance

* Get training on real-world website maintenance. Assist with website proofing and updating as needed to maintain Academy styles and best practices for writing for the web

* Investigates search engine optimization opportunities and provides detailed recommendations for consideration

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

* High school diploma or GED is required

* Currently enrolled as a student studying communications, digital marketing/marketing, or other related fields is required

* Must be enrolled in an educational institution pursuing fulfillment of a degree


Experience:

* Experience with social media marketing, social media best practices, web production, and web best-practice tools is preferred

* Interest in social media management, web editing, and content management systems is required


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Self-starter, motivated, detail-oriented, and excellent communicator is required

* Keen understanding of audience is preferred

* Team-player is preferred

* Design or coding knowledge is preferred


ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Travel Requirements: Travel not required

Location: Minneapolis, MN and is identified as 100% remote (not required to work in the office with the ability to work remotely 100% of the time)

Schedule: Some evenings and weekends required

Physical Requirements: Standard office setting, with ability to sit for long periods of time, occasional use of stairs; regular use of computer and office equipment, lifting up to 10 lbs. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
