Join our Agency Relations team as a Rising Partners Organizational Development Intern. This position will work closely with the Second Harvest Heartland (SHH) Agency Relations team to identify up to 6 agency partners or prospective partners who meet a working definition of a "rising partner" that represents and serves BIPOC communities and desires intentional support from the food bank to foster its organizational development. Once the rising partners are identified, the intern will create a cohort and coordinate specific activities designed to increase organizational capacity and strengthen the relationship with the food bank. Activities could include but are not limited to tailored, in-person agency orientation; matching with an experienced agency partner mentor organization; cohort roundtables on topics identified by rising partners; etc.

Work Schedule:

  • Total time requirement: November 2022 - March 2023 approximately 20 hours/week, (flexible with this timeline)
  • Days of the week: Days of the week for this position are flexible
  • Time of the day: 8am to 4:30pm (flexible within these hours)
  • Work sites: Second Harvest Heartland HQ Brooklyn Park & Remote

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and document program framework and criteria
  • Work closely with Agency Relations supervisor to refine criteria for rising partners and identify members of a small cohort - up to 6 agency partners and/or prospective partners
  • Plan and implement rising partner cohort activities
  • Closely coordinate with Agency Relations grant administrator to identify areas for cash grants to rising partners
  • Conduct site visits to rising partners to assess areas of need in terms of organizational development
  • Collaborate with Agency Relations Communication with regular communications to and among rising partner cohort
  • Assist with monitoring and evaluation of cash grants to rising partners
  • Develop outcomes and evaluation plan for "rising partner" program
  • Refine program and provide recommendations based on data

Must Have:

  • A combination of education and experience generally attained through programs in a related field (organizational development, small business development, nonprofit management, community development) and a minimum of 6 months experience in community organizing, community development, or working or volunteering for a small nonprofit organization. A degree is not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone is welcomed and valued.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Office, Office365 and the ability to learn other computer software programs.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, and enthusiasm, both individually and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, manage and follow through on multiple daily tasks and projects.

Nice to Have:

  • One year or more of experience in community organizing, community development, or working or volunteering for a small nonprofit organization.
  • Practical experience in setting up a small business, community-based program or nonprofit organization.
  • Commitment and experience in operationalizing racial equity in community organizing, community development, small business development, social services, or related sector.
  • A combination of education and experience generally attained through a High School diploma or equivalent experience and previous warehouse experience.
  • Customer Service experience.
  • Leadership abilities.
  • Bilingual in other languages highly desired, (Spanish, Somali, Hmong).

Professional Development/Learning Objectives:

Learning objectives can be jointly developed with the manager. Opportunities for learning objectives that fit within this project include:

  • Increase or develop skills in community engagement to advance racial equity in the nonprofit sector
  • Increase or develop skills in organizational development and sustainability in a manner that advances racial equity
  • Focus on Systemic disparities in racial hunger gap with tactics to address
  • Understand basic principles of grantmaking, project/program development and evaluation

Starting Pay Range:$15 - $20 USD hourly or more / Dependent on Qualifications and Experience.
