Simpson Housing Services began as an emergency overnight shelter in the basement of Simpson United Methodist Church in 1982. Simpson has since become a leading nonprofit providing assistance to people experiencing homelessness. In response to un-met community needs, our programs have grown to include emergency shelter, single adult supportive housing, and family supportive housing. We work across the metro area, partnering with landlords and developers to find affordable housing for all families and individuals. At any given time, we provide supportive services to 100 individuals and 200 families with over 400 children.

How Can You Contribute?


Summary

The position of Program Accounting Specialist provides support to the Finance department of Simpson Housing Services. This position will require someone who is very comfortable with transactional accounting work (receivables, payables & reconciliations) This is a full- time benefits eligible position.

This position will provide essential support and administration assistance to the Finance Department supporting programs and participants indirectly through data entry, record keeping, invoicing housing support funds, billing Medicaid eligible services and various other related data entry and participant support functions.

Responsibilities

Accounting:

  • Manages Housing Support (HS) funds for Family Housing and Opportunity Housing Program, this includes tracking payment of rent, utilities, and other eligible costs, and recording and monitoring income received.
  • Perform all data entry and billing to Medicaid for eligible participants, including verification and follow up on all denied and unpaid claims.
  • Responsible for all participant accounting functions for assigned Housing Support Programs, including recertification date monitoring and communicating to appropriate program staff to ensure participant continuity. Ensure paperwork is submitted to the county.
  • Code, record, reconcile and ensure all credit card documentation matches charges for all agency staff and participant charges.
  • Adhere to and enforce payment standards and program guidelines when preparing check requests. Provide consistency across programs in applying standards and advise program staff as to funds available and approved
  • Assist program staff to monitor and enforce participant Provide detailed three- month budgets for those with budgeting concerns.
  • Primary contact for program staff regarding participant budgets and
  • Order, obtain, distribute to appropriate staff and accurately account for bus cards, bus tokens and laundry quarters as required. Reconcile to the General ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Administrator MCHP system and billing system through MN-ITS as required for programs. Responsible for verification of services to HS participants and monthly billing. Design and update monthly report with HS Occupancy Rates.
  • Administer the pool for Family Housing and Opportunity Housing Partnership. Monitor, record and track pool expenses and ensure expenses are in compliance with program requirements. Compile year-end reports on pool balances as well as reports on how the restricted funds are spent during the next fiscal year.
  • Account for and monitor Simpson Savings Program for families. Provide monthly reports as needed regarding participant
  • Track and account for gift card donations and assist with distribution to staff.
  • Assist with financial record keeping, this includes: allocation of costs to all departments, analyzing data, accounts payable, invoicing, filing, and other financial tracking tasks as requested.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Three years minimum experience in accounting or finance role.
