Role Summary:

The Buyer is responsible for working with vendors/suppliers to procure needed materials, hardware and other supplies for production at both Mid-Continent Engineering and Micron Metalworks locations. The Buyer's aim is to consistently achieve a combination of lowest cost and optimal delivery times with required quality, quantity, and availability for the organization to fulfill customer orders on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Generates and executes purchase orders
  • Follows up with suppliers via the Open Order process and/or as needed to monitor variance to delivery timing and cost.
  • As necessary, works with suppliers to expedite orders to fulfill shortages or customer demand.
  • Actively researches and develops new sources of supply and/or recommends possible substitute materials and/or suppliers.
  • In collaboration with accounting, tracks status supplier payables to ensure suppliers are kept current and within credit limits.
  • Develops and maintains necessary files and records within the company's ERP system or similar.
  • Negotiates and recommends appropriate settlement for inferior or defective shipments or other errors or delays.

Qualifications:

Associate degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school or 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit; occasionally required to stand, reach, bend and move throughout the facility.

Must be able to safely work in and around facility, following required safety procedures, and, where applicable, use of PPE

Work Environment

Work performed in a shop/office cubicle environment.

Controlled environment with an average temperature between 65 and 75 degrees.



1st Shift- 8 am to 4:30 pm- Monday through Friday
