About the Role:

Sezzle is seeking an experienced payment engineering professional to lead our payments engineering team. The most qualified candidate will have experience providing analysis needed for the optimization of payments strategies as well as the development of new strategies for payment collections while maintaining exceptional consumer experience in e-commerce and in-store POS environment. The leader will work closely with credit risk, product, data, and engineering teams to identify ways to enhance our payments platform capabilities in the most consumer-friendly way possible.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a team of software engineers as the team's capacity requirements grow
  • Complete ownership of all payment and settlement systems and collection strategies including card, ACH, and EFT processing, financial accounting, and card issuing systems
  • Prepare specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code
  • Organize, document, and maintain software functionality
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Evaluate and deploy software tools, processes, and metrics
  • Provide support and consulting on software systems usage
  • Ensure compliance with project plans and industry standards

Minimum Requirements:

  • 6+ years of experience working in a Computer Software Engineer or Software Developer position
  • 4+ years of experience leading a team of full-stack developers, 2+ years experience leading engineering managers
  • 2+ years working with payments systems including card networks and ACH, and other EFT processing, and/or card issuing platforms
  • BS degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent relevant experience

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Significant experience in developing web applications at an enterprise scale
  • Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases, SQL, and distributed data platforms
  • Financial and accounting systems knowledge
  • Good experience in designing interactive applications with test-driven development
  • Experience with Go, React, AWS, React Native, Python
  • Experience documenting requirements and specifications
  • Close familiarity with software engineering tools, software development methodology, and release processes
