II. Job Summary:

The Career Advancement Coach is responsible for providing career advancement services for Minnesota Family Investment Program participants who are working at low wage paying jobs. The Career Advancement Coach will write a Career Advancement Plan with each participant based on their career goals, education, employer, and field of work to sustainably increase income through employment. The goal is to create a 3-6 month intensive plan and then provide the ongoing support to move that plan forward and adapt it to the changing needs of the individual.

III. Core Job Functions:

The Career Advancement Coach performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:

  • Provide career advancement support by partnering with participants to develop and implement Career Advancement Plans, researching training and career advancement opportunities, coordinating with Job Developer for new job leads and partner with Finance and Benefits Coach to ensure participants are eligible for and enroll in benefits at their jobs.
  • Develop training and coaching plans for participants that will assess skills, identify opportunities for further development, and support the continued development of marketable work skills, successful work habits and participant-directed self-sufficiency goals. Provide skills assessments.
  • Ensure the overall integration and maintenance of participant caseloads in MFIP and all Emerge programming/opportunities available to participants by by partnering with other staff to maximize program enrollments and support opportunities, completing follow-ups and case notes and maintaining case files in accordance to County, State, and agency guidelines
  • Positively represent all Community Based Services and other EMERGE programs by engaging in public leadership and outreach and developing new partnerships and collaborations with employers and community organizations to enhance the services provided.
  • Perform any other tasks and duties necessary in order for the agency to meet its mission.

IV. Position Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree in human services, social services or related field preferred or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience.
  • Two years of work experience in employment & training, human services, and/or MFIP preferred.
  • GCDF certification preferred, must be obtained within one year of employment.

B. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities.

  1. Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  2. Experience working with WorkForce 1 and/or ClientTrack a plus.
  3. Ability to work effectively in a mission-driven agency whose clients and staff reflect significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, socio-economic status, nationality and religion.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.

  1. Ability to retain a working knowledge of participant-specific needs related to limited English proficiency, basic needs, immigration, transportation, disability status, and career development.
  2. Knowledge and sensitivity to psychosocial, economic and physical conditions affecting MFIP participants.
  1. Ability to regularly travel within the metro area and between multiple agency locations.

V. Working Conditions and Environment:

ECTC: Incumbent will have a private office/designated workspace in a typical office environment. The building is multiple floors and fully accessible and is smoke-free. Work will include regular local travel. Working hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8 am-5:00 pm, but will include occasional evening and weekend hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, sometimes loud.
