Jefferson Lines- Human Resource Manager

Summary:

HR Manager Responsibilities

Employee Experience & Management Support

Talent Management:

  • Partner with internal business units on workforce planning and employee career development to achieve an effective and dynamic employee base.
  • Oversee and track all required new employee onboarding requirements and orientation.
  • Lead the Employee Experience Committee which focuses on employee engagement activities and initiatives for the Company.
  • Labor Relations
    • Represent the company in labor contract negotiations or serve as a resource to negotiators by providing needed information.
    • Resolve employee relations issues including conflict resolution, harassment investigations, wage complaints, employee disputes, attendance issues, and general questions.
  • Assist in the termination process, ensuring the correct data is gathered and that Company policies are followed.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Participate in compensation surveys, develop market competitive wage scales as necessary, and manage position descriptions.
  • Assist with payroll administration including ensuring that payrolls are handled effectively and timely, and payroll backup as needed.
  • Assist with the renewal and ongoing management of health and benefit plans.

Training and Development

  • Develop, facilitate, implement and monitor the Company performance management system to include job descriptions, goal-setting, coaching, and evaluations.
  • Assist managers with performance reviews and coaching.
  • Work with key managers to identify training needs.
  • Lead organizational-level training and compliance programs.

Human Resource Administration

  • Responsible for the effective utilization and accuracy of human resource systems and databases.
  • Establish and maintain effective HR Processes and practices that comply with all policy and legal rules and regulations.
  • Ensure organizational HR policies and practices are consistently applied.
  • Complete various legal and financial compliance audits.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR files.
  • Responsible for development and day-to-day management of departmental personnel.
  • Maintain and report departmental Key Performance Index (KPI's).
  • Research, develop and recommend employment policies.
  • Maintain and update employee handbook.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

A Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of progressive experience in a Human Resources environment, preferably in a union and multi-state employee environment. PHR/SPHR certification is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communications and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of HR laws and ability to stay current with legislation and laws
  • Experience resolving employee relations issues in a union environment.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Operational knowledge of payroll policies, regulations and procedures and a working knowledge of benefit plan administration.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports and plan, coordinate, and administer the HRIS system.
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and possesses a highly professional demeanor.
  • Self-reliance, judgment and initiative - once trained in systems and procedures, the ideal candidate will operate successfully with minimal direction
  • Ability to work within established deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with Paycom HRIS is a plus.

Physical Demands & Environment

  • Required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls.
  • Required to stand and walk and on occasion may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The position is primarily an office-based position that occasionally performs work-related travel.
