This position supports our 2nd shift so the hours are Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-1:00am
Position Objective:
Plans and designs manufacturing processes. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, automation opportunities, and work force utilization. Determines tools, automation, robotics, and digitalization needed to achieve manufacturing goals.
Responsibilities:
- Implement automation, robotics, digitalization, and lean-based process improvements that result in improved first pass yields.
- Participate on cross-functional teams to resolve daily and chronic production issues.
- Develop work instructions to meet product specifications and ISO requirements.
- Participate on new product development teams to ensure that product designs conform to the principles of DFA.
- Participate in feasibility studies, technical specifications, and engineering product concept reviews.
- Participate in the development of assembly lines, including production test equipment, automation, robotics, and digitalization for products assembled onsite and products assembled at low-cost overseas factories.
- Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives including demand-driven continuous flow, 5-S, and elimination of waste through value stream analysis.
- Participate in cost reduction projects for product and assembly lines, focusing on automation, robotics, digitalization, and lean solutions.
- Prepare capital justification reports and coordinate the procurement and implementation of capital equipment.
- Review and approve ECN's.
- Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.
Relationship to Others:
Works under immediate supervision. Works closely with peers in Operations, Engineering, Suppliers and Marketing. Limited international travel may be required to assist in pilot builds and first production runs as part of new product development.
Dimensions of Position:
- Position is critical to the company's objective to introduce new products that are successful in the market.
- Participates in new product development. Writes assembly methods and assists in assembly line layout, capacity analysis, and automation solutions. Participates on FMEA and DFM/DFA teams during product development.
- Coordinates the purchase of equipment and tools to meet product specifications.
- Works with sensitive company design and quality data including specifications and costs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related area. Certification in Lean, 5S, DFMA, FMEA, DOE, SPC, 6 sigma is a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of one year experience in a manufacturing assembly environment. Familiarization with automation, robotics, digitalization solutions, and lean-6 sigma manufacturing principles is desired.
Skills
- Must be able to work with people from multiple disciplines to successfully accomplish project goals (project management leadership).
- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions (complex problem solving).
- Makes us of good judgment and decision making ability
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office 2010, Word and Excel
- Strong understanding of DFA/DRM and lean principles
- Working knowledge of business acumen and financial management
