Engineering Technician/SCADA Engineer

Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland

City Light & Power, Inc. (CLP) is seeking an Engineering Technician/SCADA Engineer to join our team at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

For over 30 years, CLP's operational focus has been to develop, upgrade, construct and maintain overhead and underground high voltage distribution systems, street lighting systems and power generation facilities. We serve customers across the U.S. including the federal government, military installations and municipalities.

The Engineering Technician/SCADA Engineer position supports our client, U.S. Army facility, Aberdeen Proving Ground. If you're looking to grow your engineering career with an innovative and responsive Utility Development Leader, this is the place for you!

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor utility scale SCADA system including master SCADA servers, HMI screens, communication networks, and field devices on a day-to-day basis.
  • Troubleshoot SCADA hardware and software. Assist Engineers with system updates, testing, and documentation.
  • Import updated SCADA programming provided onto the servers and controllers.
  • Troubleshoot distribution automation system mis-operation with System Operators and work with Engineers to identify root cause.
  • Monitor SCADA alarms and provide list of action items to Operators.
  • Assist Operators as needed with switching, status monitoring, and outage troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and control various User access to the SCADA system.
  • Maintain network monitoring systems and data historian information.
  • Download and provide protective relay event reports and SERs to Engineers for fault root cause analysis.
  • Help IT support team during annual server OS updates and patching.
  • Enforce and maintain Company cybersecurity policies and procedures related to SCADA systems.
  • Maintain and update drawings and documentation.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering, or related field. BSEE is a plus.
  • Two plus (2+) years' experience with electrical utility SCADA and distribution automation.
  • Familiar with medium voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Familiar with blueprints, schematics, one-lines, communications and other system drawings.
  • Knowledge of SCADA communications network, topology, and protocols.
  • Must have strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Be a team player with excellent communication skills.

Work Authorization and Clearance:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Willingness to undergo a background check to obtain military base security clearance.
  • Valid driver's license required and ability to travel as needed.
