Instructional Designer, Nursing and Health Professions

The Instructional Designer will be responsible for supporting the Editorial Leadership Team (Section Editors, Clinical Editors, Media Director) in overseeing the development of high-quality courseware for continuing education within specific healthcare content domains. The candidate must have the ability to identify the skill, knowledge, and information gaps of nurses and healthcare professionals and suggest interactive learning exercises to fill this gap. The Instructional Designer will create storyboards that bring together text, images, video, and audio to produce content that adheres to the principles of adult learning. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, an eye for detail, and creative and innovative ideas for our product line.

Experience working with healthcare content is strongly desired, along with at least 5 years of relevant instructional design experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Extract relevant information from clinical content to develop engaging, but concise storyboards for authoring tools.
  • Select the appropriate media from a database of illustrations, animations, video, and stock footage.
  • Identify opportunities for new media
  • Structure content and interactive activities for effective learning
  • In coordination with Editorial Leadership Team, create posttests in alignment with accreditation criteria in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the educational activity.
  • Work closely with Editorial Leadership Team to revise storyboards to ensure clinical accuracy, as well as copyeditors, for readability and correctness.
  • Collaborate with production team to ensure courseware is developed correctly and in alignment with storyboard.
  • Manage several ongoing and overlapping projects to reach deadlines.
  • Work with Editorial Leadership Team to develop a realistic schedule and process that adheres to departmental goals.
  • Advise team members on best-in-class design, interface, interactivity, and tools for eLearning courseware

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, education technology, or related field required. Master's degree is preferred in discipline or related field as described for Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • In-depth knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design models
  • Lesson and storyboard planning skills
  • Experience with authoring tools (Articulate Rise, Captivate) and learning management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand healthcare content to write effective text for online learning, and to select the appropriate media and learning activities to support the content
  • Drive to innovate and create new models for interactive learning
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and flexibility, while working independently from a remote location
  • Ability to self-manage multiple priorities within deadlines and report on work produced

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in instructional design
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, such as initiative and a strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills such that feedback is effectively and constructively given and received
  • Motivated self-learner with focus on team success
  • Experience with content management systems and project tracking programs (e.g., SDL, Rally, Distiller)
  • Knowledge of ADA Compliance, Fair Use Guidelines, Copyright, and Quality Matters (QM)
