Responsibilities

  • Conduct and be capable of leading a team in the field delineating wetlands and watercourses on various project sites and for a variety of market sectors in accordance with state and federal procedures
  • Perform field environmental permit compliance observation and reporting on energy projects, transmission line construction projects and others, focused on implementation and maintenance of soil erosion and sedimentation control measures and practices
  • Assist the department Director or a Project Manager with state and federal wetland permitting applications and assists with public involvement activities
  • May attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss permitting issues
  • Work within or lead a team of professionals to conduct a wide array of ecological, wildlife and water resources related studies and analysis for a multitude of environmental, land development and energy (transmission and renewables) projects (e.g., wetland functional assessments, wildlife habitat evaluations, and rare species surveys)
  • Data analysis and technical report writing
  • Ability to utilize and work with GIS applications for field collection and desktop analysis
  • This position may include night/weekend shifts and/or working in challenging weather conditions

Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to work confidently and independently on highly active construction sites
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills as this position will require coordination with subconsultants and colleagues in other office locations regularly
  • Must have experience reading and understanding engineering site plans
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to grow professionally
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Strong communication skills between clients, contractors, and state/federal officials
  • Experience with establishing and monitoring budgets and assist with proposal writing a plus



Qualifications

  • BS in environmental science, natural resources, wetland science, soil science, ecological sciences, or related field required
  • 5+ years of professional environmental consulting experience, including experience conducting wetland delineations and state and federal natural resource permitting required
  • Qualified Soil Scientist with the standards set by the federal Office of Personnel Management (e.g., Certified Soil Scientist), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) or on track to obtain strongly preferred
  • Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist or on track to obtain strongly preferred
  • Experience on construction sites and with Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control measures and practices preferred
