Job Summary

UT Southwestern has an opening for the position of Software Engineer, Biomedical Engineering The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center would like to hire a full-time software engineer to join the Biomedical Engineering Department. The research project focuses on developing portable/wearable imaging devices and applying them to preclinical and clinical studies. The ideal candidate will have one to two years' software engineering experience, preferably involving development of biomedical devices, wearable device or imaging device, or automation using single board computers and microcontrollers. Responsibilities include programing, testing, maintaining, and documenting application software for new imaging devices in close collaboration with of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and clinicians to improve patient outcome.

Job Duties:
  • Provides technical leadership, support and expertise to customers during all phases of software application development lifecycle.
  • Configure and perform routine maintenance on to the assigned system.
  • Coordinate with application developers, managers and customer application experts to ensure that required features and modifications are included.
  • Work with product development teams and senior designers on complex projects to develop architectural requirements to ensure client satisfaction.
  • **Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop software with graphic user interface to control and operate a prototype wearable imaging device.
  • Collaborate with other team members to test and debug the imaging system.
  • Maintain and upgrade device software as needed.
  • Assist lab members with preclinical and clinical imaging studies.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or related field and five (5) years' experience in structured systems and data analysis.
  • Experience as a Data Architect and expertise in relational databases and design (normalized and dimensional) a must.
  • Experience with database consolidation and integration development projects a must.
Preferred Experience:
  • Willingness to learn new skills and embrace emerging technologies.
  • Programming skills in C, C++, Python, and Open CV.
  • Experience with software development on microcontrollers or single board computers, such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi and NVidia Jetson.
  • Experience with GUI programming.
  • Experience with digital imaging processing.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with other colleagues and investigators.
