Summary
Ushers are one of the primary customer service components for the State, Orpheum and Pantages Theatres. They are the main contact for our guests, and are charged with the responsibility of creating a positive and inviting atmosphere for guests to enjoy the wide variety of performances that our theatres provide.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assure that the theatre is in a "show ready" condition prior to the doors being opened to the public
  • Greet guests as they enter the theatre
  • Scan theatre tickets and direct guests to the proper entrance into the theatre
  • Direct guests in finding their seats in the theatre in a courteous and professional manner
  • Assist guests with special needs requirements as directed by the Floor Captain or Event Manager
  • Insert program changes into programs; distribute programs as directed
  • Respond to and provide direction to guests in emergency or evacuation situations in accordance with Theatre evacuation plan
  • Provide direction to guests for any additional needs inside the Theatres
  • Assist with crowd control and line movement in a calm and efficient manner
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of all theatre spaces and property
  • Maintain neat appearance and wear complete uniform according to the uniform policy during all scheduled shifts
  • Commitment to understanding all theatre policies and assist in ensuring they are followed
  • Treat all guests, staff, and clients in a respectful and inclusive manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • Background or experience in customer service and/or conflict resolution required
  • Passionate about the live entertainment industry preferred
  • Experience in the theatre, music and live entertainment business preferred

Communication Skills

  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and communicate seating locations and directions
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers onsite

Critical Thinking

  • Ability to tactfully and respectfully interact with a variety of people and cultures
  • Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and use good decision making skills
