Qualified candidates are eligible to go through our lateral selection process and if hired will be placed at the top of the seniority list based on years of service. Patrol Deputies are able to enjoy a life-work balance with schedules that allow for three or more consecutive days off. Retirement benefits include 401a, 457 Plan, and Social Security.

Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) has an in-depth, robust training program with lots of opportunities for collateral duties such as SWAT(Archer), K-9, Bomb squad, FTO, mentoring, etc. Larimer County is over 2500 square miles of varying terrain, offering opportunities to partner with Emergency Services in disaster-related challenges, such as fires and floods. Responsibilities

A Certified Deputy with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office performs a full range of law enforcement duties, including protection of citizens and crime prevention work.

Specifically, a Patrol Deputy:

  • Answers calls for service; complete appropriate and required paperwork; testify in court; resolve conflict; complete required training; communicate clearly with citizens and other law enforcement professionals; dispense information to those who need it.
  • Responsible for the protection of life and property; prevention of crimes; apprehension of criminals.
  • Enforces Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations.
  • Effects arrests under various circumstances
  • Determines when there is reasonable suspicion to detain, when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when appropriate force may be used and to what degree.
  • Enforces laws and ordinances while protecting the rights of citizens.
  • Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers.

Qualifications



  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must be currently Colorado POST certified or Certifiable by date of hire
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current first aid and community CPR certificates by date of hire
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.
  • No criminal convictions as defined by Colorado POST

  • Shift work required.
  • Shifts require working days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.

Successful applicants will be required to meet all of the following qualifications prior to hire:

  • Must be 21 years of age by date of hire
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Cannot have a felony conviction
  • No convictions involving domestic violence
  • No use of illegal drugs within the past five years
  • No use of marijuana in any form within the past two years
  • Pass integrity questionnaire
  • Pass a written examination
  • Pass the following physical fitness agility test based on the Essential Job Functions, with or without reasonable accommodation
    • 1.5 mile run in 16 minutes or less
    • Physical Agility Course similar to the LawFit course. Applicants will receive an outline describing the course.
