With the rise of container systemslike Docker and orchestration engines like Kubernetes it is now easier thanever to deploy, scale, and manage stateless applications. But what about distributeddatabases like Cassandra, Elasticsearch and Kafka? These applications havestate and running these systems on Kubernetes can be achieved with the rightamount of innovation. Using technologies like Kubernetes, the Data Platformsteam is working to change how Optum builds and runs distributed data systemson-premise.

PrimaryResponsibilities:

• Technical curiosity and an ability to troubleshoot the unknown.
• Deliver professional level technical work in support of the development of company products, tools, platforms and services, typically for an external customer or end user.
• Helping to mentor junior software engineers
• Operate within established methodologies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Apply knowledge of principles and techniques to solve technical problems.
• Be an active participant on the Scrum team.
• Utilize solid development skills and gain an understanding of software architecture.

RequiredQualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years of experience in the software engineering profession
• 1+ years of experience working with Kafka
• Willingness to work an on-call rotation
• If you need to enter awork site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using theProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering yoursymptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptomscreener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to weara mask in common areas. In addition, employees must comply with any state andlocal masking orders.

PreferredQualifications:

• Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, key-value stores (such as Cassandra), Elasticsearch
• Experience delivering software using a DevOps approach
• Experience with Cloud technologies
• Health care industry experience
• Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment while maintaining adherence to standards and best practices
