Installs, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs microcomputer equipment at the College of DuPage.

  • Tests and installs microcomputer equipment for end users at the institution.
  • Loads and configures operating systems, drivers, and applications on new microcomputer equipment from disk, cd-rom, or network.
  • Troubleshoots microcomputers, displays, laptops, printers, and other peripherals determining if the problems are hardware, software, network, or user based.
  • Maintains and updates computer based reporting and tracking system for computer problems.
  • Diagnoses hardware problems and determines if the equipment can be repaired in a cost effective manner.
  • Coordinates and tracks the repair of in-warranty hardware problems with third party vendors or manufacturers.
  • Repairs microcomputer equipment as required, including replacement of motherboards, disk drives, CD-ROM/DVD drives, video cards, power supplies, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, and other peripherals following established procedures. Uses available tools to save or recover user data whenever possible.
  • Coordinates repairs of microcomputer equipment by third party vendors when needed.
  • Maintains and orders spare parts inventory for equipment repair.
  • Coordinates a computerized inventory of computer equipment at the institution with Capital Assets.
  • Consults with user area regarding problems that do not require hardware repairs and notifies appropriate personnel in Information Technology.
  • Sets up and moves computer equipment as needed
  • Installs and maintains computer equipment used for data communication, such as modems, wired and wireless networks, cables, and special software.
  • Coordinates the tracking and disposal of obsolete computer equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE:

One year experience working with microcomputers. Knowledge of Mac OS and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

EDUCATION:

Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and years of experience.

PREFERRED:

EXPERIENCE:

One year experience repairing Apple, IBM and compatible hardware and software.

EDUCATION:

Associates degree in computer related area.

Macintosh, PC's, printers, and all other peripherals.

Lifting of equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. Work with electrical equipment. Must be able to use telephone, computer keyboards/mice and view CRT screens. Use of general hand tools, must be able to operate motor vehicle. Must pass physical exam at College expense.

This position requires a background check and drug screen.
