The Director of Nursing is the administrator of Nursing Programs. This position directly supervises the full-time and part-time faculty, the manager of simulation labs, and program support specialists. This position reports directly to the Dean, Nursing and Health Sciences.

  • Administration, development and supervision of all Nursing programs.
  • Recruitment, hiring, supervision and evaluation of all part-time nursing faculty.
  • Supervision and evaluation of full-time nursing faculty.
  • Assignment of didactic, laboratory, and clinical teaching loads, for all nursing faculty for approval by the Dean. Maintenance of committee assignments, including request to Committee on Committee for faculty members to serve on said committees.
  • Supervision of work assignments for Manager of Simulation, Laboratory Learning, and Nursing Program Support Specialists.
  • In collaboration with the Nursing Program Participation Committee, oversees nursing student admission approval process through selection of new applicants.
  • Management of nursing budgets and capital acquisitions.
  • Leadership of nursing program approvals and accreditation processes.
  • Oversee procurement and evaluation of clinical sites for all nursing programs.
  • Represent the college and nursing programs with external agencies and groups.
  • Lead nursing faculty to pursue appropriate grant funding and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee curriculum, nursing student progress, and student performance issues.
  • Oversee procurement and maintenance of clinical affiliation agreements; assure nursing faculty and student compliance with placement requirements.
  • Evaluation of nursing programs, goals and outcomes. Prepare annual reports to regulatory and accrediting agencies, and responsible for accreditation self-study document preparation and site visits.
  • Promotion of nursing departmental efficiency and effectiveness of operations and resource utilization.
  • Oversee division planning of the bi-annual nursing pinning ceremony.
  • Chair Nursing Full Council and Nursing Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Keep Dean apprised of student and faculty needs, issues and concerns in a timely manner; provide administrative discipline and conflict resolution, under the direction of the Dean.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Dean.

REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE:

At least 3 years' experience as RN; 3 years of FT teaching experience in a nursing program; at least 2 years administrative/management experience in an educational setting; knowledge of trends and developments in nursing education.

EDUCATION:

Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Current active license as Registered Nurse in Illinois or license-eligible.

PREFERRED:

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience as program director/coordinator/chair; knowledge or experience with a nursing program accreditation process (ACEN preferred) knowledge or experience with self-study preparation; ability to guide faculty through accreditation process.

EDUCATION:

Doctoral Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited college or university. Additional coursework or advanced degree in education, health science, or related discipline.
