Position Description

Senior Materials Engineer
Description
  • Technical resource for developing and implementing new process / products that result in innovative non-woven solutions for filtration applications.
  • Implement projects in the pilot plant using wet-laid process technology for non-woven manufacturing using natural and synthetic fibers.
  • Work closely in the pilot plant environment to develop prototype media for proof of concept study using DOE and similar statistical tools.
  • Works collaboratively with Application Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing Plants and outside suppliers to provide filtration material and technology solutions to meet Business requirements.
  • Identify media solutions to application problems. Screens and benchmarks new materials and filtration technologies.
  • Develop new filtration materials through design and selection of components, manufacturing processes, test and controls.
  • Work with company's modeling tools as part of product design processes
  • Contribute to Donaldson's Intellectual Properties portfolio through the development of proprietary filtration media and media technologies.
  • Identify and institute media design and process changes to improve performance of existing products and manufacturing operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, or Material Science. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Industry experience in areas such as non-woven industry; filtration applications; or chemical industry, preferred, or a Master's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, Non-Wovens or Material Science.
  • Fundamental understanding of material properties (Chemical, Mechanical, Structural).
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of structural deformation or fluid mechanics.
  • Prototyping methods, research way to evaluate new materials.
  • Sound problem solving skills.
  • Familiarity working with outside suppliers in product development and/or manufacturing.
  • Basic statistics and DOE methodologies preferred.
