Position Summary
Facilitates, coordinates, monitors and provides care to the trauma patients and family. Provides consultation and education on trauma issues, including orthopedic care to individuals and groups internal and external to the hospital. Responsible for the provision of expert trauma and orthopedic care, from acute inpatient care through to outpatient/follow-up clinic care. Functions as a clinical expert, consultant, educator and leader within the Trauma Program and interdisciplinary team. Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical standards to enhance the quality of care for the pediatric trauma patient. Ensures that care delivered is family centered, customer focused, effective and cost efficient. Participates in the Trauma Performance Improvement process and as a leader in the maintenance of Pediatric Trauma Standards.

Qualifications

1. License / Certification: MN RN license, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification or Physician's Assistant Certification required.
2. Education: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree required. Graduate of an acute care pediatric nurse practitioner program and acute care certification preferred.
3. Experience: At least 2 years pediatric trauma clinical experience required. Trauma rounding experience and orthopedic experience preferred. Experience working with acute trauma patients preferred.
4. Skills: Advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills for children and families. Critical analysis and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and interpret laboratory and radiographic data. Ability to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Ability to work collaboratively through consultation with other healthcare team providers.
5. Professional Development
a. Maintains 16 hours/year, or 48 hours/3 years of Trauma CME.
b. Maintain current ATLS, BLS, and PALS certification.
