| Primary Function: & Major Responsibilities |
Primary responsibilities include: Controlled substance monitoring and diversion surveillance. Secondary responsibilities include: To prepare and label patient medications including sterile admixtures, prepackaged drugs and supplies under a pharmacist’s supervision. Packaging products for delivery to patients’ homes. Assists pharmacists in coordinating/scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures. Ability to refill a pick list from the pharmacists initial order entry for preparation of sterile admixtures. Generate labels for sterile admixtures and/or non-sterile medication(s) and places with the respective pick list. Organizes assigned workload for the efficiency of the department and to facilitate its accomplishment within the time expectations of the customer. Participates in coordinating/scheduling the processing and delivery of patient orders with the pharmacist. Performs pre-delivery phone calls to set up delivery time frames, patients to monitor supply inventories and determine specific patient supply needs. Prepares/compounds sterile admixtures, including, but not limited to, parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, chemotherapy, hydration, narcotic analgesics, etc. using aseptic techniques, and under the supervision of a pharmacist. Labels, picks, and packages drugs, supplies, and equipment in accordance with the pick list and under the supervision of a pharmacist. Completes the pick list and other pharmacy records (i.e., Pump and poles sign-out log) as indicated. Records accurate lot and expiration dates on pick lists and compounding records. Assembles/packages medications, supplies, and equipment in appropriate shipping containers. Receives ordered inventory, unpacks inventory, and stocks shelves in Pharmacy. Prepares and affixes delivery labels to the individual patient shipping container. Directs/coordinates deliveries by commercial courier, as needed. Ensures the clean room suites and related equipment are cleaned and maintained, per organizational policy and procedure. Performs and records activities for cleaning, inspecting, and performing functional tests on infusion control pumps or other home medical equipment, per policy. Coordinates designated hazardous waste and home medical equipment pick-up and disposal activities. Answers the telephone and triages to appropriate person, as indicated. Participates in department QA activities, as requested. Attends designated departmental/staff meetings, as scheduled. Performs other tasks or duties assigned by Pharmacists and/or Pharmacy Director as requested. | ||
| Qualifications: | Education: High school diploma. Successful completion of an approved/accredited pharmacy technician program, desired. Experience: Registration with the MN Board of Pharmacy, required. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), desired. Minimum one year experience in the aseptic preparation of large/small volume parenterals, parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, and chemotherapy. Previous hospital or homecare experience, desired Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use, and aseptic technique; Detail-oriented; Possess the ability to work effectively with others as part of a team, as well as individually; Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Possess good organizational and time-management skills; Familiar with data entry and use of a computer; Possess the ability and initiative to plan for and complete daily activities in coordination with other infusion team members (pharmacy and nursing). Dependable in attendance and job performance; Ability to lift 35 pounds when needed to perform job duties. | ||
