JOB TITLE: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

FUNCTIONAL DEPT:

REPORTS TO (JOB TITLE): Environmental Health and Safety Manager

JOB PROFILE:

GRADE:

MAJOR FUNCTION

This position provides environmental, health, and safety support, implementation of EHS programs and training, and planning and auditing of the EHS systems on-site. Reporting to the EHS Manager this individual will be required to work independently or with limited oversight to help ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment. They are responsible for compliance with all environmental and safety regulatory agencies. This position would also respond to emergencies as they arise and support all EHS operations to foster a safety culture and ensure compliance.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support compliance with all Local, State, and Federal Laws.
  • Maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics, to report to the EHS manager and local Management team.
  • Conduct Risk assessments related to jobs performed by employees and suggest risk mitigation strategies.
  • Recommending and implementing appropriate risk mitigation measures to management.
  • Training and assisting others (managers, employees, etc.) to complete their safety training.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, and safety and environmental training.
  • Perform environmental, health & safety (EHS) tours, audits, & surveys throughout Nilfisk Brooklyn Park to document compliance status
  • Provide internal and external EHS sampling (monitoring) and analysis to provide data needed for internal or external reporting & compliance.
  • Conduct accident / near miss investigations and root cause analysis and may make resolution recommendations.
  • Perform periodic safety Inspections such as fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, cranes, and hoists.
  • Hazardous Waste Contamination and Spill Cleanup Responder
  • Provide and implement training initiatives throughout the building.
  • Support management in maintaining the Training Log

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • GED or High School Diploma required.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree desirable.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of EHS specialist/similar experience
  • 3+ years of experience training or teaching.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting performing similar work preferred.
  • 3+ years of auditing or risk mitigation experience.

KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
  • CPR/AED trained or willing to do so.
  • Must have excellent organizational, analytical, and administrative skills.
  • Creative and innovative thinking.
  • Adept at collecting and maintaining health, safety, and environmental data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Must have excellent planning and organization skills, and the ability to independently manage multiple projects from initiation to delivery.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with all levels of operations.
  • The Ideal candidate will also have an EHS-related certification license, and experience working with ISO Management systems (9001, 14001, 45001, and/or 50001).
  • Experience in managing hazardous waste storage and satellite accumulation areas.
  • Experience in performing boots-on-the-ground safety oversight.
  • Experience implementing/developing health and safety plans and policies.
  • Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water.
  • Experience using Windows operating systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated a strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail in either academic or career pursuits.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage shifting priorities, and follow through on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations (29CFR1910)
  • Experience in risk analysis techniques.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with MS office (outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be proficient in Office, and SharePoint, and be willing and able to learn other software systems as needed.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification preferred.
  • ASP Certification preferred
  • DOT/IADA/DGT Training preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
