Position Description

The Communications Department works with local, state, and national news media to inform the public about the policies, programs, and activities generated by Anoka County. Within this role, the Communications staff develops and monitors County-wide public information policies and procedures, assuring that accurate information is disseminated to the public.

The department has an immediate opening for an Audio Visual Technician. The Audio Visual Technician administers, sets up, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and assists in the installation and configuration of audio-visual and other electronic communications technology throughout Anoka County facilities and the courthouse. The Audio Visual Technician is responsible for training staff on the use of technology and is the first responder to diagnose and resolve technical issues.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-siteposition. Interviews will take place the week of May 27th, 2024 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: $48,006 to $56,409 ($23.08 to $27.12 per hour).
  • 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 28: $48,006 to $64,812 ($23.08 to $31.16 per hour).

Work Location

  • This position will work at Anoka County Government Building located at 2100 3rd Avenue, Anoka MN 55303
  • Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Audio Visual Technician:

  • Install, configure, operate, disassemble, maintain, and troubleshoot audiovisual equipment, such as cameras, monitors, recording equipment, microphones, public address systems, and lighting.
  • Pull and terminate cabling through walls, ceilings, and floors.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment for defects and problems and perform routine maintenance.
  • Implement the county audiovisual reservation system. Understand and implement customer's needs and vision.
  • Coordinate with customers on placement and integration, and ensure the functionality of monitors, lighting, microphones, sound mixing, recording, and videoconferencing equipment for live events and meetings.
  • Facilitate recurring meetings such as committee/board meetings, recording presentations, and preparing deliverables.
  • Respond to and resolve routine questions and technical issues.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 2 years of job-related experience in commercial and/or residential audiovisual installation.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Degree in Audio Visual Technology, Electronics, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Solid understanding of audiovisual systems and ability to operate current equipment, including teleconferencing, multimedia, monitors, projectors, amplifiers, speakers, computers, SmartBoards, switchers, cameras, recorders, and other presentation equipment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and decision-making skills and the ability to solve technical issues quickly.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting audiovisual blueprints and schematics.
  • Industry certifications and Minnesota Power Limited Technician (PTL) are a plus.
  • Familiarity with professional audiovisual equipment (e.g., Crestron, Extron, Biamp, etc.)
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. Ability to effectively work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Standard office environment, travel to various county work sites and meetings as needed.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness.
  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
  • Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities.
  • Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working on a ladder, in ceilings, and in confined spaces.
  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
  • Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
