Duties/Responsibilities

(50%) coordinate the analysis, evaluation and reporting for epidemiologic studies of pediatric
cancer etiology and outcomes at the direction of faculty members. Prepare and interpret results for publications and presentations. Scientific writing for manuscripts or grant applications in a supporting or primary role.
(30%) management of epidemiologic studies, to include data collection instrument design,
provision of analytic datasets to students and collaborators.
(10%) serve as an expert resource for analysis of epidemiologic datasets to students, other
trainees, staff, and external collaborators.
(10%) design and implement a system for data organization and storage of a complex array of epidemiology studies.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field and substantial research and publication record in a health-related research setting, and demonstrated skills in statistical computer programs such as SAS, R, etc.
Familiarity with data collection instruments such as REDCap. The Division will support education to acquire new programming skills.
Good interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) are also essential, as well as ability for setting priorities, multi-tasking, and working with several faculty researchers to meet numerous deadlines.
Ability to provide datasets to collaborators and trainees, and to advise the latter on analysis of these datasets.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field
At least four years' experience in a health-related research setting
Familiarity with cancer epidemiology, sources of cancer data, and especially pediatric cancer data
Ability to harmonize and pool data from disparate sources
Conversance in genomic file types and ability to manage (but not necessarily analyze) genomic files
Familiarity with SMS data collection, management and analysis
Prior experience in supervision of trainees or other analysts
Familiarity with and experience in publication of scientific manuscripts

Program/Unit Description

The Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Research has nearly a 30 year history of conducting epidemiologic research into the causes of childhood cancer, outcomes during treatment, and late-effects among survivors. Currently five faculty work in this area, along with numerous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Data to be managed and analyzed include cancer surveillance (i.e. SEER), many case-control studies conducted through the Children's Oncology Group, large record-linkage studies, and pooled case-control data through the Childhood Leukemia International Consortium, among others. The Division also holds many genomic datasets which require management and integration with non-genomic data. Division research and trainees are supported by multiple NIH and foundation grants, an NIH T32 training grant, and the generous philanthropy of the Children's Cancer Research Fund.
