JOB SPECIFICS

The Seasonal Beach Coordinator performs a variety of operational tasks to ensure the safety and security of County beaches and parks. Provides assistance and serves as a lead worker to other seasonal employees. This position is required to work evenings, weekends and holidays and includes traveling to various Washington County work locations. Work is performed under limited supervision and is reviewed in progress and on completion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Certified to teach American Red Cross lifeguarding, first aid, waterfront lifeguarding, and CPR/AED
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous work experience with Washington County Parks
  • Work experience training lifeguards
  • Work experience at a beach
  • Work experience at a concession stand

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

HOURS / DAYS: Varies, includes evening and weekend hours. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.

LOCATION: Work locations include Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Big Marine Park Reserve, Point Douglas Park and Square Lake Park.

ANTICIPATED RATE OF PAY: $19.69 Hourly

EMPLOYMENT CRITERIA

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a least 18 years of age and certified to teach American Red Cross lifeguarding, first aid, waterfront lifeguarding and CPR/AED. Must have own means of reliable transportation; individuals operating a motor vehicle for County business must possess a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous lead worker experience and educational background and/or experience in parks and recreation management is highly desirable.

Offers of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a criminal history background check prior to beginning employment with Washington County.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates the work of other seasonal employees; prepares schedules, provides training, assigns tasks, reviews work performed, prioritizes work and helps complete end of season employee evaluations;
  • Serve as the primary contact at the beach as assigned;
  • Responds to park visitor inquiries and conflicts;
  • Performs weekly lifeguard in-service trainings and other park staff training of CPR and AED;
  • Monitors cleanliness of the beach;
  • Monitors supply levels and prepare supplies requests as needed;
  • May assist with beach opening and closing.
Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed at County parks; primarily Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Big Marine Park Reserve, Point Douglas Park and Square Lake Regional Park. Work is performed both 10% inside and 90% outside. Work performed outside involves exposure to seasonal elements including heat, wind, humidity, sand, rain and cold water. Equipment used may include computers, cash drawers, Point of Sale software, and concession food-service equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without help, on occasion. Additional physical and mental requirements may not be listed, but are inherent for performing the position's essential functions.
