About the Job

Summary of Position:
The successful candidate will join a diverse, dynamic, and accelerating research team investigating the structure and function of the protein dystrophin and how its absence leads to Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The specific scientific duties unique to this position include, molecular cloning and the generation and maintenance of DNA plasmids, recombinant protein expression in bacteria, protein purification, and protein characterization. The position may also support maintenance of dystrophic mouse lines including PCR genotyping, tissue dissection, staining and microscopic imaging.

Essential Functions
20% - Laboratory preparation, support and maintenance
Prepare stock buffers, wash glassware, autoclave materials, restock pipette tips

70% - Recombinant Protein Purification and Characterization
Cell culture, chromatography, High Speed Cosedimentation, SDS-PAGE, western blotting

10% - Documentation, Record keeping
Documenting bench work and data in electronic lab notebook, and preparing PowerPoint slides for presentation of data to research team and sponsor.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications
BS in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related biological sciences major. 10 months of experience in biochemistry research lab or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with SDS PAGE and western blot analysis, recombinant protein expression

The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics.
