St. Catherine University welcomes applications for an Adjunct Lecturer in Data Science starting Fall 2024.

Responsibilities include:
  • Develop syllabus and course curriculum for the assigned course.
  • Teach one or two classes on a semester basis in traditional or online environments.
  • Educate and support students in their classroom.
  • Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities.
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator and a mentor.
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance.
  • Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance.
  • Consistent with the university's Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching and practice experiences.



Course Available:

DSCI 1000 [Data Visualization] - T/TH 3:20-5:00 p.m. - In-Person

In this course, we will discuss how we perceive information visually, how to identify and avoid pitfalls in data visualization, how we interpret data visualizations to tell a story, and how to create effective visualizations. Through community-engaged work, students will begin to learn to craft summaries and visualizations of data and to use these tools to construct narratives about the data. Community-engaged work is project-based.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Visualization, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data visualization techniques, tools, and methodologies.
  • Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level, or relevant professional experience in data visualization.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • One (1) year teaching experience.
  • Experience serving students from historically excluded communities.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Visualization, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience using industry-standard data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, R or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and statistical methods.
  • Experience designing and developing data visualization projects or applications.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and learning environments.
  • Three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience working in a minority serving institution.
