The Opportunity

Sambatek is currently seeking a Project Engineer to work with a team to execute transportation engineering projects.

The project engineer's role involves creating and refining project documents according to set standards and procedures. They must continuously improve their efficiency and skills while balancing learning and productivity. Seeking guidance and feedback within the team is essential as they become more independent. Effective communication is crucial for success as they take on diverse tasks and responsibilities.

We offer specialized knowledge and innovative solutions to County and State clients, working collaboratively to ensure ethical, sustainable, and appropriately scaled projects that maximize the value of taxpayer investments.

Work Location: Hybrid- in-office while training, flexible hybrid thereafter

The qualified candidate will:

  • Contribute to highway projects in preliminary design phase or plan development phase
  • Measure, calculate, and tabulate quantities for bidding purposes
  • Participate in quality review processes
  • Perform CAD drafting in MicroStation, GEOPAK, and OpenRoads Designer
  • Perform subtasks for a task lead or project manager as part of a collaborative team
  • Gain field experience-- spend time (a season) in the field, in addition to the office, to perform construction inspection, material testing, and see transportation project sites to grow as a designer

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 1-4 years of professional design experience
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred
  • Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Experience using Bentley GEOPAK and corridor modeling experience preferred
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage tasks on a project with strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Office/Design:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment
  • Ability to occasionally move equipment/objects weighing up to 10 pounds

Field Experience:

  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons of weather
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
