, the leading public media journalism source serving readers 50+, is looking for an experienced editor with expertise in health journalism to serve as our next editor of our section. The Digital Content Editor - Health is responsible for coverage of everything from pragmatic guides to living longer and better, understanding Alzheimer's disease from prevention to caring for a loved one, to advice on handling the day-to-day challenges of care-giving as well as step-by-step instructions on planning for end-of-life care. Key responsibilities include planning, editing, writing and publishing multiple articles and features each week.

The successful candidate will drive fresh and timely story angles and provide exceptional, informative and engaging service journalism that attracts a sizable readership.

* $75K - $80K Starting Salary depending on qualifications*


MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Drive the health channel strategy by setting areas of coverage, identifying opportunities for new features and funding opportunities, and leading enterprise reporting that sets us apart from competitors.
  • Meet an expectation of planning and publishing 8-12 articles/features per month and within budget.
  • Guide a team of outside contributors in creating unique and original reporting, including fielding weekly pitches.
  • Track and report out on story performance and fold learnings into future work.
  • Format articles and features in CMS (WordPress) to ensure optimal presentation.
  • Conduct basic SEO research on topics.
  • Collaborate with product, audience and business managers to ensure reach, engagement and revenue goals are met.
  • Maintain an unequivocal commitment to accuracy, fairness and ethics.
  • Demonstrate a passion and ability to learn new products, techniques and tools to create compelling and groundbreaking content.
  • Collaborate with TPT grant writers to outline proposals, execute content, provide data for quarterly reporting, and ensure deadlines are met.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years journalism experience, preferably including at least three years covering health and healthcare, preferably in the aging space.
  • Successful track record of managing freelancers, budget allocation, and hitting deadlines.
  • 2+ years publishing within a CMS, incorporating SEO into content, and writing compelling headlines. Experience with WordPress and Airtable a plus.
  • Understanding of how to frame content geared toward people over 50.
  • Familiarity with web analytics (i.e., Google Analytics), gleaning insights and putting them into action.
  • Ability to collaborate in a small team setting with an "all hands-on deck" attitude and flexibility.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
