Job Description
General Information
 

Saint Paul Public Schools is seeking Special Education Teachers and Assitant Teachers for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year and the 2013-14 school year.

There are several vacancies available.

This positing will remain open until all vacancies are filled.

 
Qualifications
 

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensure by the Minnesota Department of Education as a special educationt teacher, or related service provider.
  • At least three years of licensed experience in Saint Paul Public Schools.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Special Education IEP process.
  • Broad knowledge in the areas of child disorders such as conduct disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders depression, anxiety, etc.
  • Working knowledge of social service institutions and community resources and agencies.
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively with students parents teachers and administrators from diverse cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member and to creatively provide leadership input within a multi-disciplinary team.
 
Responsibilities
 

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Provide leadership for day-to-day program operations and in implementing best practice educational service models and management systems, including actively modeling, demonstrating, and instructing program staff in management techniques and social skills instruction presently used by the Saint Paul Schools for EBD students.
  • Maintain effective collaborative relationships with building administrator and Special Education administrative staff.
  • Provide leadership in close coordination and involvement with parents.
  • Provide leadership on program issues including, but not limited to, curriculum and instruction, scheduling, and social, emotional and behavioral factors.
  • Facilitate a staff development program for all staff.
  • Develop and coordinate linkages to relevant community and county resources to augment program efforts and to respond to student and family needs.
  • Establish with direct services staff, program and individual student's goals.
  • Maintain effective collaborative relationships with program and building staff including teachers and other school personnel regarding educational programs for students; assist in planning for all aspects of inclusion of students in general education.
  • Respond to program, student and staff emergencies.
  • Function effectively as a team member in all relevant issues within the program and on the building site.
  • With the building principal and district Special Education administration, monitor on-site budgets.
  • Facilitate and participate in regular program team meetings, Child Study meetings and IEP meetings.
  • Maintain necessary records or reports related to services to students.
  • Assure that staff members are compliant with due process laws related to special education students at all times.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by supervising administrator.
