Description
JOB SUMMARY:

As a Sr. Environmental Compliance Engineer you will support G&K facilities in maintaining compliance with air, water, solid and hazardous waste, emergency planning, transportation, and community right-to-know programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manage environmental permit modification and renewal process at assigned facilities. Ensure that all applicable permits are in place and up-to-date. Review permits and communicate requirements. Monitor and assess facility practices to ensure that permit requirements are met.
- Collaborate with personnel at assigned facilities to ensure that environmental reports and inventories are complete, accurate and submitted to the appropriate authorities as specified in the applicable regulations and permits.
- Visit assigned facilities and maintain familiarity with specific facility operations.
Train personnel at assigned facilities in the processes and procedures required for compliance with regulations and conformance with company standards.
- Provide technical compliance support and peer review for management systems development, environmental projects, Department management and Operations. Recommend goals, objectives and operating plans required to establish or maintain compliance with environmental rules and regulations.
- Review new and proposed environmental rules, regulations, and legislation to determine their impact or potential impact on G&K services* operations. Participate in the development of G&K*s position and any actions that need to be taken.
Define and apply corrective and preventive action to areas of non-compliance.
Manage corporate regulatory programs as assigned
- Communicate with regulatory agencies regarding proposed changes at G&K facilities, agency requests for information and agency inspection findings.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor*s degree in environmental science or engineering, or industrial engineering, or a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of results-driven and progressively more complex environmental engineering and/or regulatory compliance responsibilities.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Creative problem-solving ability. Apply sound logic and questioning to determine effects of G&K environmental programs and policies on G&K operations. Apply technical expertise and creativity to adapt procedures and practices to moderately complex problems.
Works independently and receives minimal guidance from Manager and Director.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management, regulatory agencies and the public. Develop strong supportive relationships with facility personnel to ensure open communication, and efficient and effective work efforts.
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience and works impart knowledge and experience to colleagues.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment and manage projects with joint responsibility for the completed product.
PC literate with advanced abilities in the Microsoft Office Professional Suite of applications.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, LICENSES etc.:
- In-depth knowledge of and experience with Federal, State and Local environmental laws, regulations, and standards sufficient to assist in the development and implementation of compliance programs in the assigned areas of responsibility and at the assigned facilities.
Professional license, registration, certification (e.g., CHMM) or advanced degree is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of and skilled in communications sufficient to effectively represent the Department at conferences, meetings and consultations with Department management and regulatory officials concerning environmental program objectives, compliance status and policies.
Proven ability to assess environmental compliance and management programs at operations having the potential for causing harm to human health or the environment due to hazardous physical agents, chemicals and processes.
